Sweetness

Marble - 6 months old and cute as a button

The astounding thing about this is that Puddles has been the very last one to accept the new babies. This is a first!

The electrician is done (except for 2 older chandeliers that need rewiring and the fan in the room that we are insulating and drywalling). I have light! I can see!

Must knit!

Rhinebeck - Day 1

We came, we saw, we bought and we had a good time.

Arrived just after 8 this morning and had the place largely to ourselves for about 30 minutes. Saw a lot more naturally dyed yarns and rovings and placed to get natural dye materials. Very excited to see this as I am dying to dye with natural dyes

I didn't buy a wool runner from Mexico in the most beautiful shades of reds and greens ($650.00) or actually very much. Probably do more tomorrow but wanted a chance to look around and get a feel for the show.

I did buy some Mountain Colors Bearfoot - a red and a teal and some madder dyed roving.

There is a much higher ratio of vendors to sheep than at Maryland - the sheep are in 1 and a 1/2 barns here although there were lots of Blue Faced Leicesters - the featured breed at the NYS-S&W.

Spotted Stephanie Pearl-McPhee in her Kauni Cardigan and also several gorgeous shawls - a red one, a green one and a very pretty Charlotte's Web. It was pretty warm for anything heavier.

I will post some pictures later - blogger doesn't seem to want to cooperate this evening

OMG - I forgot to tell you

the most exciting thing on the planet ....

I am going to Rhinebeck and I leave a week today!!!

Having missed Maryland Sheep and Wool in May, I feel it only right and proper that I go to the New York version but I have been so far into the renos and work that it only just now struck me how soon Rhinebeck is!

Spinning mojo is in great danger of coming back after a Rhiney visit and I can dust off my Lendrum and maybe spring for a Woolly Winder to make it really impossible not to spin.

Knitting mojo must also be out there somewhere but it is looking pretty good for getting Kauni out and going again

House progress:

Plugs all updated and all grounded
Pigtails (temporary bare light bulb lights) installed in the bedrooms - which is the first time there have been overhead lights in there !
Outside plugs x 3 - 2 of which are protected while in use and 1 protected as long as there is nothing plugged in - did you know there were such things? I didn't
Boiler (furnace thingy that heats the water that circulates in the rads) and new hot water heater are in and being connected by the most interesting series of valves and elbow joints this side of the space shuttle. The poor man who is installing it has to take frequent brain breaks as it is so complicated. Here's hoping nothing leaks!

More to come! Knitting too I hope

Plugging along

Oh that is such a bad pun.... and so much fun when there is an electrician in the house upgrading all the plugs...

I am amused by small things and proud of it!

Forgive my bloglessness, I bin bizzy! Well not me exactly but getting it all organized took so much more time that I would have every thought. And the guys who didn't even bother to call back - now that's just rude....

Progress to date:

All asbestos wrapping the hot water heating system pipes - GONE
Ancient cast iron boiler that was once fueled by coal - GONE - they had to cut it into 4 pieces to make it light enough to carry out
Big old ugly cast oil tanks that took up way too much room - GONE
Knob and tube wiring and groundless plugs - almost GONE
Botched eavestroughs that dumped water everywhere but into the down spout - FIXED

Still to come:

New furnace/boiler (a really really small one that will also supply hot water to the house) NEXT WEEK!
Gas line to fire up the boiler - 4 more weeks - keep your fingers crossed for warm weather for me PLEASE
Repairs (long needed) to a couple of my walls which sport their original plaster and lath from the 30s when this little house was built - some of which - the plaster that is - has landed in big chunks on the floor - SOON

Knitting progress?

Kaffe Fassett Mirage sock in earth - DONE

Started a baby sweater from Interweave Holiday Gifts mag - a little wrap cardi in the lovely dragon scale pattern - almost done 1 fron after 1 session. These little projects are great fun

Oh and the most delightful thing from today? There is a plug in our bathroom now! Any one else out there not have a plug in the bathroom. How did I love without it!!!
